So…who are your influences?

It’s funny as musicians to be asked what we sound like or who are influences are because not everything we listen to necessarily directly informs our music. Dean and I (Wendy) are in both Papermaps and Wendy Versus but the two bands sound completely different because they draw on different sets of influences.

I grew up listening to radio bubblegum pop, 90′s Can-rock and singer/songwriters. One of my favourites of the latter is DIY songstress Emm Gryner. Her albums have always had the perfect blend of mid-tempo pop hooks and emotive balladry to capture my attention over the years. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon her latest musical direction with the shvrs bros: pedals, synths, and other wonderous machines?! It makes me happy to see artists I love coincidentally venturing on similar musical paths.

Tracks redux – new songs up!

Just got the final tracks for Crayon Wars in our hands and we couldn’t be happier. Still a few months away from having the physical copies ( <3 vinyl ) but that doesn’t mean we can’t share a little in the meantime.

Back in 2010 we holed up at Chemical Sound for 14 hours and recorded demos of White Noise and Juliana. We mixed and released them on el internets while we worked on more material. These songs made it onto the album and you can find the new mixes here!

Why hello!

You’ve stumbled upon the home of Toronto-based band WENDY VERSUS. We’ve been slaving away at our record for quite some time and are excited to be finally resurfacing. With a new name, new sounds, new photos…it’s kinda like being born again. Except it’s more like being reincarnated carrying the experiences of your previous old soul. Or something. Anyway, glad to be back – as we get closer to the album release we’ll have more exciting things to share [cough, songpreviews, cough, cough] so stick with us!
